Healing Guide For Scar Camouflage
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe exceptional results begin long before the procedure and continue well beyond it. Every treatment is individualized, and every client deserves to feel informed, supported, respected, and cared for throughout the healing journey. Education is an essential part of achieving beautiful, lasting results.
A Personal Welcome
Thank you for choosing Newport Permanent Makeup.
Whether your procedure is cosmetic or restorative, I consider it a privilege to be part of your journey. Every treatment I perform is customized to the individual sitting in front of me, and I never lose sight of the trust my clients place in my hands.
Over the past 27 years, I have learned that beautiful results come from more than technical skill. They come from careful planning, meticulous technique, thoughtful aftercare, and a partnership between artist and client.
This guide brings together the knowledge and experience I have gained over nearly three decades of practice, along with the same guidance I share with my clients every day. Please remember that every person heals differently. If you ever have a question or simply need reassurance, I encourage you to call or text. I am always happy to help.
With gratitude,
Debbie Miller

Why Aftercare Matters
Your procedure is only the first step. The way your skin heals over the next days and weeks plays an important role in your comfort, skin integrity, pigment retention (when applicable), and your final result. Please follow these instructions carefully and contact me if you are unsure about anything during the healing process.

SCAR CAMOUFLAGE AFTERCARE
About Scar Camouflage
Camouflage is built gradually. The goal is to improve color harmony and soften the appearance of a scar—not remove the scar itself. Final color should not be judged until healing is complete, generally about one month after the procedure.
🩹 IF SANIDERM WAS APPLIED
• Leave the first Saniderm® bandage on for 8–24 hours. Replace earlier if excessive fluid collects or the edges loosen.
• Showering is permitted with Saniderm in place, but avoid direct spray and long, hot, steamy showers.
• At 24 hours, remove the first film, wash gently with Cetaphil®, pat dry, apply a thin layer of healing balm, and apply a new Saniderm.
• The second Saniderm may remain up to 5 days. Do not wear Saniderm longer than 7 days total.
• If fluid collects under the second film, remove it within 24 hours, cleanse, apply a thin layer of Microbalm or Areola Balm, and switch to a Telfa® non-stick dressing.
• If you develop uniform redness or irritation around the adhesive border, discontinue Saniderm, cleanse the area, and use Telfa dressings.
✦ IF NO BANDAGE WAS APPLIED
• Use the provided MicroTonic solution and cotton pads to gently pressure blot during the first 4 hours. Additional oozing may be blotted with cool water on a clean cotton pad.
• Beginning the first night, apply a thin layer of the provided ointment with a clean cotton swab. Continue about twice daily for 7 days; dry skin may need three light applications daily.
• Do not allow the area to become completely dry, but do not over-apply ointment. The skin should be lightly moisturized, not saturated.
💧 CLEANING • SHOWERING • PROTECTION
• Wash with very clean hands or a clean cotton pad and warm—not hot—water. Gently cleanse; never rub.
• Baths and showers are permitted if the area does not become excessively wet. If Saniderm is not in place, apply a slightly thicker protective layer of ointment before showering and blot excess afterward.
• Avoid long, hot, steamy baths and showers. Resume normal bathing and showering after 7 days.
• Use clean bed linens during the initial healing stage and wash hands before all cleaning or ointment application.
! AVOID DURING HEALING
• Do not pick, scratch, rub, or remove crusts or flakes.
• Avoid swimming in fresh, salt, or chlorinated water for at least 2 weeks. Minimize sun exposure; after healing, use sun protection to reduce fading.
• No cosmetics on or near the treated area for 7 days and until all crusting/flaking is gone.
• Keep Retin-A, retinoids, acids, exfoliants, and active skin-care products away from the area during healing and use caution long term because they can accelerate fading.
• Avoid gardening, dirty environments, pets, and unnecessary direct contact with the treated area.
SCAR CAMOUFLAGE — IMPORTANT INFORMATION
♥ NORMAL HEALING & RESULTS
• Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, and light oozing for a day or two can be normal.
• Pigment will look stronger immediately after the procedure and will soften as healing progresses.
• Skin type, scar tissue, surgical history, and the amount of correction needed influence the healed result. Minor color-density differences are common and can be refined at follow-up.
• Allow at least 6 weeks between camouflage sessions unless I advise otherwise.
⚠ CALL ME, BUT SEEK MEDICAL CARE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE
• Increasing or spreading redness or swelling
• Increasing tenderness or pain
• Red streaks extending from the treated area
• Pus or foul drainage
• Fever or chills
! LONG-TERM SAFETY NOTES
• Tell your MRI doctor or technician that you have a cosmetic/medical tattoo in the treated area.
• Do not have laser treatment performed directly over scar-camouflage pigment without first informing the laser provider that the area contains tattoo pigment. Pigments containing titanium dioxide may darken when exposed to certain lasers.
• Variations from these aftercare recommendations can affect pigment retention and the final outcome.
