Healing Guide For Cosmetic Procedures
YOUR HEALING GUIDE
Cosmetic Tattooing — Brows • Eyeliner • Lip Color
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe exceptional results begin long before the procedure and continue well beyond it. Every treatment is individualized, and every client deserves to feel informed, supported, respected, and cared for throughout the healing journey. Education is an essential part of achieving beautiful, lasting results.
A Personal Welcome
Thank you for choosing Newport Permanent Makeup.
Whether your procedure is cosmetic or restorative, I consider it a privilege to be part of your journey. Every treatment I perform is customized to the individual sitting in front of me, and I never lose sight of the trust my clients place in my hands.
Over the past 27 years, I have learned that beautiful results come from more than technical skill. They come from careful planning, meticulous technique, thoughtful aftercare, and a partnership between artist and client.
This guide brings together the knowledge and experience I have gained over nearly three decades of practice, along with the same guidance I share with my clients every day. Please remember that every person heals differently. If you ever have a question or simply need reassurance, I encourage you to call or text. I am always happy to help.
With gratitude,
Debbie Miller
Cosmetic and Medical Tattooing Specialist.
Why Aftercare Matters
Your procedure is only the first step. The way your skin heals over the next days and weeks plays an important role in pigment retention, comfort, and your final result. Please follow these instructions carefully and contact me if you are unsure about anything during healing.

COSMETIC TATTOO AFTERCARE
Brows • Eyeliner • Lip Color
♥ WHAT TO EXPECT
• Your cosmetic tattoo will look darker, stronger, and more defined immediately after the procedure. This is normal.
• Mild redness, tenderness, and some swelling may occur. Eyeliner and lips typically swell more than brows.
• Flaking or light crusting is part of normal healing. Do not pick, scratch, rub, or peel.
• Color may soften and lighten significantly as the skin heals. Reserve judgment until the area is fully healed—generally 3–4 weeks.
• Minor light areas, color adjustments, or symmetry refinements can be addressed at your follow-up. Permanent makeup is a process, and a second application is common.
✦ FIRST 24 HOURS
• Wash your hands before touching any treated area.
• If you see visible lymph or oozing, gently blot with a clean tissue or cotton pad. Never rub.
• Use the procedure-specific Day 1 instructions on the next page for brows, eyeliner, and lips.
• Do not apply ointment until bedtime unless I have instructed you differently.
• Ice packs may be used for swelling or discomfort on eyeliner or lips for 10–15 minutes at a time. Do not apply ice directly to the skin.
💧 CLEANING & OINTMENT
• Beginning 24 hours after your procedure, wash treated areas gently morning and evening with Cetaphil® or another mild liquid cleanser and cool water.
• Use clean fingertips or a cotton pad. Rinse gently and pat dry with a clean tissue or soft towel. Do not rub.
• Apply only a very thin layer of the prescribed ointment with a clean cotton swab or microbrush. The skin should look lightly moisturized—not shiny or goopy.
• Use ointment for about 7 days, or as directed. If skin remains dry or flaky after 7 days, continue a thin layer until the skin looks and feels normal.
• Never apply ointment to wet or damp skin. Over-application can irritate the skin and delay healing.
☀ SHOWERING • WATER • SUN
• Showers are permitted, but avoid direct shower spray on treated areas and avoid long, hot, steamy showers or baths.
• Do not immerse treated areas in pools, oceans, lakes, hot tubs, saunas, or steam rooms for at least 2 weeks.
• Minimize direct sun exposure during healing. After healing is complete, sun protection helps reduce premature fading.
! AVOID DURING HEALING
• No makeup or skin-care products directly on treated areas for 7 days, or until all visible flaking is gone.
• Keep Retin-A, retinoids, acids, exfoliants, and active skin-care products away from treated areas during healing; long-term use close to permanent makeup can accelerate fading.
• Avoid gardening, dirty environments, pet contact, and unnecessary touching of the treated areas.
• Do not pick, scratch, rub, or deliberately remove crusts or flakes.
PROCEDURE-SPECIFIC AFTERCARE
✦ BROWS
• Day 1: If you have visible fluid or oozing, blot with a clean tissue or cotton pad every 5–10 minutes during the first couple of hours.
• Once every hour for the first 4 hours, gently pressure blot with MicroTonic on a cotton pad. Continue blotting every 2–3 hours until bedtime.
• Apply a tiny, rice grain-sized amount of ointment per brow at bedtime, then about 2 times daily for the next 6–8 days. Very oily skin may need less.
• No makeup or skin creams directly on the brows while healing.
• No tweezing, waxing, or tinting for 10–14 days and until all visible flaking or dryness has resolved.
• Avoid Retin-A, retinoids, and exfoliants on the forehead during healing and use caution long term to prevent premature fading.
◉ EYELINER
• Day 1: Blot the eyelids every hour for the first 4 hours with MicroTonic on a cotton pad. Continue every 2–3 hours until bedtime. Pressure blot—do not rub.
• Do not apply ointment until bedtime. Use only a rice grain-sized amount per eye with a clean microbrush or cotton swab. Very oily skin may be instructed to delay ointment until Day 3.
• Avoid contact lenses until swelling has resolved, usually 2–3 days.
• No mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, eyelash curler, or other eye makeup for 7 days or until all flaking is gone. Do not tint lashes for 10 days.
• Sleeping with your head elevated for the first 1–2 nights may help swelling.
• Although rare, worsening burning, redness, or pain in the eye itself, or a very sore red bump along the lash line, requires medical evaluation.
♡ LIP COLOR
• Keep lips lightly moisturized with the prescribed aftercare product. Reapply as needed for dryness, but avoid heavy over-application during the first few days.
• Drink through a straw for the first 4–5 days.
• Avoid biting directly into foods such as sandwiches or apples while healing; cut food into smaller bites.
• Avoid whitening toothpaste, whitening mouthwash, peroxide products, and other whitening agents during healing.
• Do not pick or peel. Once peeling is complete, you may use moisturizing lip color or gloss.
• The lips may look very light after peeling and may go through a second exfoliation. Final color is not fully visible for about 3–4 weeks.
• Lip color often requires two or more sessions for complete saturation and refinement.
⚠ CALL ME, BUT SEEK MEDICAL CARE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE
• Spreading or rapidly increasing redness or swelling.
• Increasing pain or tenderness rather than gradual improvement.
• Red streaks, pus or foul drainage, fever, or chills.
• For eyeliner: worsening burning, redness, or pain in the eye itself, vision concerns, or symptoms that do not appear to be healing normally.
